Worldpay has launched its MCP (Model Context Protocol), a publicly available set of server specifications and tools created to support AI-driven payment integration and agentic commerce.
The solution is available on Worldpay’s Developer Hub and Github, and developers and retailers can download, modify, and deploy the protocol today and create AI agents and direct payment integrations with Worldpay’s API.
Model Context Protocol
The rollout follows a shift in consumer expectations towards more autonomous, AI-powered experiences, with 44% of American shoppers saying that they would engage an AI bot to browse on their behalf. This shows that commerce is moving towards agents searching and making purchases for consumers.
Worldpay MCP aims to contribute to developments in agentic commerce, enabling agentic payments in which AI facilitates transactions and optimises payment flows. This way, businesses can offer personalised and more effective commerce journeys for their customers.
Worldpay MCP is free and open, allowing users to deploy the protocol in their technology without licensing fees or proprietary restrictions. Simplifying AI agent integration and payment infrastructure testing, the solution reduces integration complexity and accelerates time to market, while enabling interoperability and scalability across evolving AI ecosystems.
MCP is designed for direct connection with Worldpay’s global payments APIs, making sure that secure payment processing is available for select Worldpay merchants around the world. Backed by the company’s global reach and infrastructure, developers can test and experiment with AI agents in real-time and validate configurations in a secure environment before deploying to production.
As agentic commerce is emerging as the next step in online shopping, the launch of Worldpay MCP aims to respond to the demand of developers and merchants, offering them the freedom to experiment, build, and develop their solutions in a controlled environment. They will be connecting directly with Worldpay’s global payment infrastructure, making protocols work together for sellers.
