stc pay Bahrain and PayPal have partnered to enable direct cross-border fund transfers between the two platforms.
Under the partnership, verified stc pay Bahrain customers can securely link their PayPal accounts to their stc pay wallets. Once linked, users can fund their PayPal wallets from their stc pay accounts and withdraw available PayPal balances back into stc pay. In addition, withdrawals convert automatically from USD, PayPal's settlement currency, into BHD, the currency used in stc pay wallets. The integration is aimed at shoppers, freelancers, content creators, and small and medium-sized enterprises engaged in cross-border transactions.
Strategic rationale
According to the companies, the service responds to demand among Bahrain-based users for more direct ways to manage international payments and digital earnings. Freelancers and creators receiving payments from overseas clients, as well as consumers purchasing from international e-commerce platforms, are cited as key use cases. Through the process of linking a global digital wallet such as PayPal directly to a domestic mobile wallet, the partnership reduces the number of intermediary steps typically required to move funds between local and international accounts.
Metin Zavrak, CEO of stc pay Bahrain, said the integration formed part of the company's broader strategy to expand its financial services offering and support Bahrain's fintech sector. Furthermore, Otto Williams, SVP, Regional Head and General Manager, Middle East and Africa, PayPal, said the partnership was intended to widen access to cross-border commerce for consumers and businesses in the country.
The partnership positions stc pay Bahrain within a wider regional trend of mobile wallet providers seeking interoperability with international payment networks, as digital commerce and remote work continue to drive demand for cross-border payment tools in the Middle East. For PayPal, the integration extends its reach into Bahrain's digital wallet ecosystem, adding a local distribution channel for its cross-border payment infrastructure.
The companies stated that the service maintains existing compliance and security standards applied to stc pay's other financial products, with account linking subject to verification requirements.
