Paysafe has announced the launch of a Merchant of Record solution in partnership with FastSpring.
According to the official press release, the co-branded offering is built on FastSpring's Merchant of Record infrastructure and is designed to help software, gaming, and digital goods businesses expand into international markets while reducing the operational and regulatory burden typically associated with cross-border selling.
Under a Merchant of Record arrangement, the provider acts as the legal seller for transactions on behalf of a business, taking on responsibilities that would otherwise sit with the merchant itself. According to the companies, the new solution covers tax collection, calculation, and remittance, payment localisation, regional regulatory compliance, and chargeback management. In addition, through the process of centralising these functions, the model is intended to let merchants direct more resources toward product development and customer acquisition rather than administrative overheads linked to operating in multiple jurisdictions.
The solution is initially targeted at digital-first sectors, including gaming, software, and digital content businesses, areas in which cross-border sales volumes and regulatory variation across markets can add complexity to direct merchant operations. The companies stated that combining Paysafe's payments infrastructure and international reach with FastSpring's Merchant of Record capabilities is intended to provide these businesses with a more streamlined route to global commerce.
Strategic context
The partnership positions Paysafe within the Merchant of Record segment of the payments market, an area that has attracted increasing attention as software, artificial intelligence, and digital goods companies look to sell across borders without establishing local legal entities or managing jurisdiction-specific tax and compliance requirements individually. For FastSpring, the arrangement extends the distribution of its Merchant of Record infrastructure through Paysafe's existing merchant relationships and payments network.
Bob Legters, chief product officer at Paysafe, said the collaboration is intended to make it easier for digital businesses to reach customers worldwide through a Merchant of Record framework, so they can focus on product development and customer service rather than the complexities of global commerce. Furthermore, David Nachman, chief executive officer at FastSpring, said the partnership combines FastSpring's Merchant of Record expertise with Paysafe's payments capabilities to help businesses scale internationally.
The companies said businesses in the AI, software, video game, mobile app, and broader digital goods sectors that are interested in the Merchant of Record model can approach Paysafe directly to explore the offering as part of their international growth strategies. No specific rollout timeline or regional launch sequence was disclosed in the announcement.
