OpenPayd, a financial infrastructure provider, has connected its platform to Circle Payments Network (CPN), enabling businesses to make cross-border fiat payments that settle in seconds. The integration allows OpenPayd clients to access stablecoin-based settlement while continuing to send and receive fiat currencies, without needing to build or manage blockchain infrastructure themselves.
CPN operates as a coordination layer connecting financial institutions to support cross-border payment orchestration using regulated stablecoins, including USDC and EURC. The network enables participants to coordinate settlement and payment flows across existing financial infrastructure, such as local payment systems and banking rails. CPN is operated by Circle Technology Services, LLC, an affiliate of Circle Internet Group. Circle Technology Services does not hold funds or manage customer accounts directly; instead, it enables participating financial institutions to connect, communicate, and settle directly with one another under the CPN Rules and Participation Agreement.
Through the integration, OpenPayd combines blockchain-based settlement speed with the reach of established global banking rails. The company states that the capability is already supporting payment corridors including euro to Brazilian real and pound sterling to Mexican peso, with these transactions settling on a near-instant basis rather than through traditional correspondent banking timelines.
Strategic context
The integration forms part of OpenPayd's broader positioning as a rails-agnostic infrastructure provider for the digital economy. Founded in 2018, the company offers embedded accounts, foreign exchange, domestic and international payments, Open Banking, and stablecoin on/off ramps through a single API, aiming to provide interoperability between traditional finance and digital assets.
According to the company, OpenPayd processes more than USD 280 billion in annual volumes for over 1,200 businesses, with clients including eToro, Kraken, OKX, and B2C2. Representatives from both companies indicated that the integration is intended to reduce the operational complexity businesses face when managing multiple payment technologies for cross-border transactions, allowing them to transact in required fiat currencies while benefiting from stablecoin settlement infrastructure operating behind the scenes.
Industry relevance
The move reflects a wider trend among payments infrastructure providers to incorporate regulated stablecoin rails alongside conventional banking networks, rather than positioning digital assets as a separate payment channel. By embedding CPN into its existing platform, OpenPayd allows businesses to access domestic payment rails, international banking networks, and stablecoin infrastructure through a single integration point. This approach reflects ongoing efforts within the payments sector to address longstanding friction in cross-border settlement, including delays and costs associated with correspondent banking chains, by applying blockchain-based settlement mechanisms to existing fiat payment flows.
