Worldline has expanded its UK product line-up with the introduction of Android SmartPOS, a payment terminal built on the Android operating system. The system is aimed primarily at small and medium-sized businesses, and the company aims to position the device as an alternative to conventional card machines by combining payment functionality with access to a wider set of business tools.
The platform is linked to Worldline’s UK acquiring services, enabling acceptance of major card schemes and next-working-day settlement. According to representatives from Worldline, smaller merchants frequently report that they manage multiple providers for payments and customer-related services. A company official said that the new terminal is intended to bring those functions into a single device.
Built-in and third-party functions
Android SmartPOS includes several features developed by Worldline. One of them, POS Advertising, displays promotional material or service messages on idle screens. Another, Smart Engage, allows merchants to gather immediate customer feedback through prompts displayed after a transaction. The terminal also contains a Mini Cashier module, which can be used to organise product catalogues, generate baskets and manage basic sales functions without requiring separate hardware.
Merchants receive instant setup, self-service configuration options and access to UK-based support. The system operates within an Android environment, meaning additional third-party applications can be downloaded through the SmartPOS Store. Worldline notes that this facilitates functions outside of traditional payment acceptance, including tools used in sectors such as hospitality, vending or EV charging. The company indicates that similar applications are already in use in several European markets and that UK businesses will gain access to a growing selection as developers expand the available catalogue.
With the UK launch, Worldline aims to offer a single terminal capable of leveraging both payment processing and operational support, in line with a general trend for multifunctional point-of-sale systems across the European market.
