Unlimit has received authorisation to operate as a direct acquirer for Mastercard and Visa transactions in Peru. Through this move, the company is extending its role in Latin America, where it already holds a similar status in Brazil and Mexico. The move allows the company to handle card payment processing directly, giving it a more prominent role in the Peruvian payments ecosystem.
The licence means Unlimit can support local merchants by processing card transactions while also facilitating international companies looking for access to Peru’s market. Representatives from the company noted that the development reflects a wider effort to build a payments infrastructure that connects businesses both regionally and globally.
Ecommerce growth shapes demand
Unlimit’s expansion into Peru comes in the context of a fast growth in the country’s ecommerce sector. According to figures from PCMI’s Ecommerce Data Library, the market was valued at around USD 37 billion in 2024 and is forecast to reach USD 59.5 billion by 2027, representing a compound annual growth rate of 17% according to the official press release. Payment cards remain the dominant method, with debit cards accounting for 49% and credit cards for 24% of transactions in 2024. Digital wallets are growing steadily, representing about 10% of activity.
Company officials said the licence will allow them to extend a range of payment solutions in Peru, including subscriptions, instalment options, and one-click checkout functions, while also offering cash-based methods such as Pago Efectivo. The company’s representatives described the new status as part of their aim to make international payment systems more accessible to Peruvian businesses.
By securing direct affiliation with Visa and Mastercard in Peru, Unlimit strengthens its operational base in the region and increases its reach in a market where demand for digital payment solutions is rising quickly.
