German drugstore chain dm has begun accepting Wero payments in its online shop, following an integration by Nexi Germany.
Customers of German drugstore chain dm can now select Wero as a payment option in the company's online shop, following a technical integration carried out by payment service provider Nexi Germany. The addition brings a large German retailer into the growing group of merchants offering the A2A payment method in the country.
Nexi Germany, part of Italy-based payment technology group Nexi, established the technical infrastructure required to support Wero in spring 2026 and has since connected several other merchants to the payment method. In the first half of 2026, the company enabled Wero acceptance for online brands Combi.de and MyTime.de, both operated by the Bünting Group, as well as for BAUR and Quelle. The integration with dm extends this rollout to one of Germany's larger drugstore retailers operating in online commerce.
The introduction of Wero at dm represents a further step in establishing the European payment method within retail, adding that the company supports Wero's rollout across acceptance, merchant integration, and technical connection to Wero's operating company, the European Payments Initiative (EPI), through its subsidiary Computop.
A2A payments without a card
Wero is built on real-time A2A payment infrastructure, allowing consumers to pay directly from their bank account without using a credit card or a separate payment account tied to a specific provider. At checkout in the dm online shop, customers can now select Wero and complete payment directly from their bank account. For merchants, the integration is designed to be straightforward, adding a European-based option to an existing payment mix.
Martin Dallmeier, dm Managing Director in the Finance + Controlling department, said the addition of Wero expands the retailer's existing payment offering, noting that payment transactions are currently undergoing structural change and that the company expects future payments to be shaped by an interplay of European payment infrastructures, digital wallets, and AI-supported shopping experiences, rather than by a single solution.
In addition, Martina Weimert, CEO of EPI, said dm's adoption of Wero reflects increasing uptake of the payment method among German merchants and illustrates ongoing collaboration between European banks, payment service providers, and merchants in developing the region's payments ecosystem.
Context: Wero's expansion in European ecommerce
Wero was developed by EPI, a Belgium-based initiative backed by European banks and payment service providers, as a real-time payment method intended to operate across borders within the EU. Its expansion to additional online retailers in Germany during 2026 follows earlier connections announced by Nexi Germany with the Bünting Group, BAUR, and Quelle. The integration with dm adds to the range of merchants across Europe now offering Wero alongside existing card- and wallet-based payment options.
