BanCoppel, one of Mexico's largest retail banks and part of Grupo Coppel, has selected BPC, a global payment solutions provider, to modernise its cards and payments operations on the SmartVista platform.
The programme forms the foundation of BanCoppel's multi-year digital transformation and is designed to accelerate product issuance and expand financial access across the bank's nationwide retail and banking network.
BanCoppel has a longstanding position in Mexican financial inclusion, having introduced unsecured lending for customers without prior credit history. The SmartVista implementation extends that mission by providing a scalable, modular technology stack capable of rapid product configuration and launch across both domestic and international card schemes, eGlobal for domestic offerings and Visa for international ones.
Platform capabilities and cardholder benefits
Through the SmartVista implementation, BanCoppel gains the ability to design and launch credit card programmes across both its banking and retail channels. Cardholders benefit from instant card issuance, card freeze and unfreeze controls, immediate PIN management, spend management tools, real-time balance visibility, and faster dispute resolution and chargeback processing. The platform's low-code and no-code approach enables internal teams to configure parameters and launch new products without extensive custom development.
Card services are integrated into BanCoppel's broader ecosystem through a unified payments architecture designed to reduce operational complexity and accelerate the delivery of new financial products. Under its strategic growth plan, BanCoppel has indicated ambitions to bring millions of unbanked customers into the formal financial system over the next five years.
Commenting on the news, Sergio del Valle, Head of Products at BanCoppel, said the modernisation enables the bank to reach new customers across retail and banking channels through innovative credit card programmes, advancing financial inclusion across the country. Daniel Hernández, Business Development Director and Country Manager Mexico at BPC, said SmartVista's modular design gives BanCoppel the flexibility to innovate and scale across its business lines.
