Talus and Ingenico have entered a partnership to introduce an Ingenico-developed SoftPOS solution to the North American market.
The partnership is targeting merchants who are looking for contactless payment acceptance without dedicated hardware. The solution allows businesses to accept tap-to-pay card and digital wallet transactions using NFC-enabled smartphones or tablets.
The SoftPOS deployment is designed to operate across a range of business environments, including retail, services, and food and beverage. By removing the need for traditional point-of-sale terminals, the partners aim to lower upfront costs and reduce the logistical burden associated with payment hardware distribution and maintenance.
Hardware-free contactless payments for merchants
The solution is built on Ingenico’s SoftPOS technology and integrated into Talus’ payments platform. According to representatives from Talus, merchants can activate the service within minutes and begin accepting payments without additional equipment. The application complies with PCI CPoC and Tap-to-Phone standards, supporting encrypted and secure contactless transactions.
Beyond payment acceptance, the mobile application includes features typically associated with full POS systems. These include inventory management, customer tracking, and access to transaction data and analytics in real time. A web-based interface is also available, allowing businesses to manage operations across devices.
Ingenico officials stated that the collaboration represents a shared focus on providing straightforward and secure payment experiences for small and mid-sized businesses. Talus representatives similarly indicated that the partnership is intended to simplify payment acceptance by moving functionality from hardware to software, particularly for merchants operating in mobile or flexible settings.
The companies said they plan to expand the SoftPOS offering through additional partnerships across North America and to introduce further tools aimed at back-office operations. Both firms positioned the collaboration as part of a general effort to adapt payment acceptance to changing merchant requirements.
