Tide has moved forward with its plans to introduce an embedded insurance service for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in the UK. The aim is to extend its existing business management platform to include direct access to cover directly within its mobile app. The initiative follows a partnership with Admiral Business, which will supply the initial set of policies: Employers’ Liability, Public Liability and Professional Indemnity.
Although Tide already provides banking, invoicing and payroll tools for its members, the addition of insurance is positioned as an extension of its integrated approach. The company reports that it supports more than 14% of UK SMEs, giving it a significant user base for the rollout.
Addressing underinsurance among smaller firms
According to Tide, a substantial number of smaller firms in the UK remain insufficiently insured, a long-standing issue highlighted across the sector. Tide’s new service aims to streamline the process by drawing on the business details already held within members’ profiles, such as revenue information, sector classification and staff count, to reduce the amount of manual data entry typically required when applying for insurance. The intention is to shorten the application process and remove repetitive administrative steps.
Representatives from Tide noted that the company aims to reduce the time businesses spend securing insurance and emphasised that embedding these options into the app is intended to make obtaining cover more straightforward for users who may otherwise delay or avoid purchasing policies.
Officials from Admiral Business said the collaboration is expected to integrate insurance more closely with day-to-day financial management for SMEs. They indicated that combining Admiral’s underwriting capabilities with Tide’s digital infrastructure may help simplify how firms obtain and manage essential policies. The service is scheduled to become available to Tide members in the near future, with additional features and product expansions expected in 2026.
