Zimpler, a Sweden-based company offering Pay-by-Bank solutions, has launched Swish Handel (Swish Commerce) and Swish Utbetalningar (Swish Payouts) for its partners.
Zimpler is now a non-banking operator that integrates directly with Getswish, the company behind Sweden’s most widely used payment method. Swish can now be provided directly through a payment institution, eliminating the need to apply through a traditional bank.
Offering Swish without a bank agreement
By opening Swish outside of banks, Zimpler aims to simplify payments and provide an alternative for businesses to access widely used payment methods in Europe. Swish access required direct banking relationships until now, which led to a costly and time-consuming process that excluded many companies, especially in regulated industries and for international businesses. The initiative is also a crucial step for the Swedish financial ecosystem, which experienced recurring disturbances and downtime recently. Through its expertise, Zimpler aims to improve the customer journey with a more reliable payment experience.
Getswish designed Swish to offer speed, security, and convenience, and by partnering with Zimpler, the company can reach more industries and clients. As more providers can offer Swish, dependence on individual banks decreases, improving the resilience of the financial ecosystem. Unlike banks, specialised providers can focus entirely on the service, offering higher service levels for end customers and businesses. Businesses can decrease costs and avoid lengthy onboarding processes, gaining access to the 8.7 million Swedes and 300,000 companies that use Swish.
Another advantage includes wider application, as international and regulated firms can now offer the solution to their Swedish customers, expanding access to familiar methods. Zimpler may also function as a Swish provider for other payment service providers, potentially expanding its portfolio and transforming the competitive landscape.
The initiative also reflects a shift in Sweden’s financial ecosystem, as A2A payments are growing rapidly and Swish’s launch could accelerate competition with card networks and change the role of banks in the payment ecosystem.
