Payment services provider Worldline has announced it was granted Payment Institution Authorisation by the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) in the UK.

The licensing comes as a confirmation of Worldline’s ambitions to further reinforce its presence in the region and enhance its offering for local and international merchants alike that operate across the country.

FCA’s Payment Institution Authorisation and what it means for Worldline

Based on the information detailed in the announcement, Worldline has seized the opportunity to further strengthen its position in the UK following decades of servicing both UK-based companies and large international merchants’ UK operations with acquiring, acceptance, and other complementary solutions. Worldline is set to consolidate all merchant customer-related activities under one UK roof and invest significantly in its offering for local customers.

The receipt of the authorisation comes as an important milestone for the company, demonstrating its ability to navigate the complexities associated with UK regulations for the benefit of its customer base. With the Temporary Permission Regime (TPR) due to conclude later in the year, Worldline’s new Payment Institution (PI) license helps ensure compliance and business continuity for all existing customers. Further reiterating the newest license, it also opens the door to domestic processing capabilities, addressing the needs of the market. Worldline’s approach of complete in-house acquiring signifies that payment facilitation rests entirely within the organisation, thus fostering transparency and reliability.

What is more, an extensive UK team of Worldline experts is going to apply in-depth market knowledge to support merchants’ payment operations and cost optimisation. Facilitated by the new domestic license, merchants can leverage optimised Interchange and Scheme fees, and with the help of the most recent AI, they are set to see further improvement in their authorisation rates. Enhanced by UK functionalities, Worldline will provide its customers with access to advanced features made available through the enterprise’s global platform development programme.

When commenting on the announcement, company representatives advised that Worldline is committed to playing an important role in the post-Brexit payments landscape of the UK, and their being granted the new license helps guarantee an increasingly stronger presence in the UK market. More to this point, they stated that as it is paramount for the company’s local service scope and ‘excellence’, the authorisation helps differentiate Worldline from multiple international competitors by bolstering its presence and enhancing its service capabilities, while simultaneously offering additional choices for UK merchants.
