Wincor Nixdorf Rolls Out Next-Generation BEETLE POS Family Featuring the Intel 815E Chipset and Moth

Wincor Nixdorf Inc., announced that it has selected Intels® 815E chipset and motherboard as the basis of its next-generation BEETLE® family of point-of-sale (POS) systems.

The 815E motherboards are available immediately on all BEETLE family models including the BEETLE /iPOS, BEETLE /NetPOS, BEETLE /S, BEETLE /M and BEETLE /XL-II. Wincor Nixdorf leveraged the 815Es support for double USB bandwidth to provide a simplified USB migration path for retailers. Retailers can purchase a BEETLE system with standard serial RS232C-powered COM ports today, then switch out two of the powered COM ports for three USB PlusPower ports at a future date. The upgrade can be accomplished with an easily installed field-replaceable interface module. This gives retailers the option to migrate to USB PlusPower as peripheral options become available. Other key benefits of the 815E design include: Investment protection Driver compatibility with older, current and next-generation Intel chipsets A long-term stable architecture with easy upgrades Double USB bandwidth allows up to four USB ports, compared to two on previous boards Simplified serviceability Jumper setting requirements replaced by BIOS-level settings, for more efficient and intuitive setup and service Reduced chip counts means fewer components to service Integrated LAN, video and audio allow a single source for drivers Faster transaction processing for improved customer shopping experience The 815E supports processor speeds up to 866MHz with a 266MHz system bus, and supports faster hard drives -- reducing customer waits at the point of sale
