Western Union introduces money transfer service in South Africa

Global money transfer services provider Western Union is to enter the South African market by teaming up with financial services provider Absa Group.

Under the terms of the contract, customers can send money via the Western Union money transfer service to almost 30 Absa Bank locations as of April 2009. The transferred money can be picked up at Western Union agent locations across the country, including those in the cities of Atlantis, Benoni, Booysens, Bramley, Cape Town, Durban, East London, Heerengracht, Johannesburg, Kimberley, Kroonstad, Midrand, Nelspruit, Polokwane, Port Elizabeth, Pretoria, Rustenburg, Sandton, Stanger and Thabazimbi.
