UK electronic money operator sQuidcard partners with the Scottish National Entitlement Card (NEC) and Dundee City Council to launch its sQuid eMoney service in Dundee. After Bolton, Dundee represents the second UK zone where sQuid is launched.

sQuid eMoney is the alternative to the debit and credit card networks for tap and go transactions of up to GBP 10. sQuid has a multi-purse capability and is compatible with ITSO (transit) standards, meaning it can also be utilised as a prepay transit card. sQuid cards can be toped up online or in store and come with a GBP 100 recharge limit.sQuid will be available through the National Entitlement Card (NEC) as well as independently through retailers. Dundee City Council is a participant in the NEC program and 38,000 cards are already in issue in Dundee, with many more now expected. Other 140,000 cards have been issued in the wider Tayside and Fife area and it is intended that these cards will also be able to benefit from this initiative when used in Dundee. Anyone who does not have or want an NEC, can alternatively get a sQuidcard for free online or in-store. Scotland citizens need the NEC card to take advantage of the Scotland-wide free bus scheme. The Council will be an active participant in the scheme, which will see sQuid eMoney being used for all sorts of small value purchases, including newspapers, food and taxis.
