South Africa: VeriFone to acquire Destiny Electronic Commerce, trading as CSC

US-based electronic payment services provider VeriFone Systems has reached a definitive agreement to acquire Destiny Electronic Commerce (trading as CSC), a South Africa-based electronic payments services provider. 

CSC is a provider of payment technologies and services at the PoS for Sub-Saharan Africa and the Indian Ocean Islands. The company supplies and supports payment systems for banking, retail and petroleum, providing estate management services and tools.

Financial terms of the acquisition are yet to be disclosed. The agreement is expected to close in the summer of 2011 following customary regulatory review.

In a recent development , VeriFone Systems and US-based provider of applications for the hospitality and retail industries worldwide Micros have jointly launched a service that integrates restaurant management systems with mobile devices, allowing consumers to pay at the table with electronic wallets on mobile phones via NFC technology.
