Singapore ranked 5th in Southeast Asia for growth in mobile payment use

A PwC study shows that Singapore comes fifth out of six Southeast Asian countries for growth in mobile payments use.

The PwCs Global Consumer Insights Survey 2019, which had 21,480 respondents from 27 territories, further uncovers that the use of mobile payments in Singapore climbed 12% from 34% of consumers surveyed in 2018 to 46% in 2019.

Other findings of the report:

  • Vietnams mobile payments usage growth increased from 37% to 61%, up 24%;

  • mobile payments usage rose 19% in Thailand, 17% in Malaysia, 14% in the Philippines; and 9% in Indonesia;

  • Asian consumers are more socially engaged online than those in Europe and the Americas;

  • respondents in Thailand, Indonesia, and Vietnam led the pack globally in making purchases directly through social media posts on platforms like Instagram and Facebook;

  • globally, only 21% of respondents said they made purchases directly through social media.
