Selfridges Trials RFID Technology

Tuesday 9 December 2003 09:56 CET | News

Exel has launched a Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) trial for Selfridges, based from the Companys Hams Hall National Distribution Centre (NDC), West Midlands. Exel is using RFID to track inbound and outbound movements of 120 food temperature-controlled containers, in 20 vehicles. The trial will help to explore future opportunities offered by RFID including product tracking to and from the stores. Each transit media and vehicle contains an RFID tag for tracking purposes. When the containers and vehicles are close to the loading bays, RFID readers and antennae read the tags and update Exels in-house software automatically.
