SCM Microsystems introduces the SCL3710 reader for NFC applications

Smart card readers and software supplier SCM Microsystems has introduced the SCL3710 NFC reader that enables contactless applications via mobile electronic devices.

The SCL3710 connects NFC-enabled mobile devices such as mobile phones or PDAs to computer or web applications, thus activating payment, banking and other financial applications. This process allows for the transfer of data which has been stored on the mobile devices, including vouchers, coupons, tickets and product details to a PC or a notebook. The reader can also be used for mobile smart-ticketing, data exchange, virtual connections, ticketing and payment for public transportation, entertainment and other transactions.In addition, the dongle enables contactless transactions for merchants. If one inserts the reader into a PC or notebook that is connected to a system such as a Point of Sale terminal, vending machine, access terminal or parking meter payment device, the SCL3710 will communicate contactlessly with consumers NFC-enabled device.The SCL3710 deploys Near Field Communication technology to allow for wireless short-range communication between electronic devices. The USB device incorporates the 13.56 MHz radio frequency technology and supports ISO 14443 Type A cards, Sony developed FeliCa tags and NXP Semiconductors NFC tags.
