ProcessAway software application turns iPhone into credit card terminal

Wednesday 28 January 2009 16:00 CET | News

In the near future, Apple is set to offer a software application through the AppStore which allows iPhone and iTouch devices to process credit card payments.

Dubbed ProcessAway, the application uses CyberSource’s Authorize.net online payment system for small merchants in the US to authorise cards presented over the iPhone and iTouch handsets.

The software works over any available network connection and transactions can be processed at places such as conventions, street fairs, antique shows, and by business owners performing mobile detailing, on-site consultation or construction works. Merchants have to open an account with Authorize.net to use the application.

The software application has been developed by Californian entrepreneur and software developer Randy Palermo who does business as Rapadev LLC. Apple Store already offers a similar application called Credit Card Terminal, which was developed by US-based company Innerfence. A functional application identical to ProcessAway called ProcessLite is offered for free but comes with a USD 5 limit for the charge amount. Both ProcessAway and ProcessLite were submitted to Apple for review and will appear in the AppStore according to Apple’s approval schedule. The ProcessAway software will be available through the AppStore for USD 19.99.
