PayPal has entered an agreement with payment processing and security vendor Equinox Payments to enable consumers to pay with PayPal at US retailers using Equinox’s L5300 and L5200 payment terminals.

Under the agreement, Equinox has integrated the PayPal Card and Card Free payment service into the platform for L5300 terminals. Retailers who have already deployed the L5300 have access to the Equinox Remote Key Injection System to update their terminal software and activate the PayPal services.

Equinox is a portfolio company of The Gores Group, a private equity firm focused on acquiring controlling interests in mature and growing businesses.

In recent news, PayPal and Japanese telecom and internet company Softbank have revealed plans to form a joint venture, PayPal Japan, meant to create the premier digital wallet for online, mobile and offline transactions in the Asian country.
