Oracle suspends operations in Russia

Friday 4 March 2022 12:46 CET | News

Business software giant Oracle Corp has announced it has suspended all operations in Russia, amid the country’s invasion of Ukraine.

Oracle is one of the latest Western brands to take similar measures, in an unprecedented solidarity with the Ukrainian people. The news came after the first week of war in the Eastern European region, in February 2022, and follows a series of global companies that temporarily suspended their operations or sales in Russia, including IKEA, Nike, Google, Apple, Spotify, Siemens, and Airbnb, among others.

Other financial sanctions imposed to the Kremlin include freezing the assets of several Russian oligarchs, including president Vladimir Putin, removing certain Russian banks from the international payments system SWIFT, and freezing the foreign actives of Russia's Central Bank in several countries, including Japan.

Oracle’s market rival, Germany-based multinational software corporation SAP, has made the same move, announcing it will pause all sales in the country.
