Network Security Market Reaches Nearly $1 Billion in Q1

In Q1 2004 the total Network Security market grew 11 percent sequentially and grew almost 28 percent over Q1 2003. Synergy Research Group (SRG) segments the total Network Security market to include Hybrid Security Solutions (Firewall/VPN), Standalone Virtual Private Network (VPN) Gateways, and Intrusion Detection/Prevention Systems (IDS/IPS).

Furthermore, SRG segments the Hybrid market into Low-End, High-End, and Next Generation Appliances, and Software Solutions. Hybrid Solution sales were up a record 20 percent sequentially and were up nearly 46 percent year-over-year, while VPN Gateway sales fell 24 percent for the quarter and 35 percent year-over-year. Additionally, IDS/IPS sales experienced a 15 percent increase for the quarter and were up almost 62 percent from Q1 2003.
