Tuesday 14 December 2010 11:03 CET | News

US consumers are largely unaware of major security threats related to financial transactions conducted via the ATM channels, a recent survey has unveiled.

Findings of the study carried out by Wincor Nixdorf, a global provider of transaction and payment services for the banking and retail markets, have shown that despite an overwhelming concern about ATM fraud, most consumers are unable to detect popular fraud tactics such as ATM card skimming. According to the Secret Service, the latter causes USD 350,000 in monetary losses each day and has occured five times more frequently in 2010 than ever before.

Results of the same survey have also revealed that a majority of the US consumers would be willing to switch banks if another fianancial institution demonstrated that it can provide more secure ATM services.

Wincor Nixdorf supports a portfolio which includes hardware, software, maintenance, services and consulting solutions, self-service ATMs, multiple check or cash, no-envelope deposit automation solutions, teller cash recyclers, multi-vendor software, ATM monitoring software and ATM security service.
