Mexico same-store sales rise 3.4 pct in April

Mexicos National Association of Supermarkets and Department Stores, or ANTAD, said on Sunday its members same-store sales rose 3.4 percent in April from a year earlier.ANTAD, which includes 102 of the countrys main retailers, said in a statement that total sales for the month grew 9.3 percent, higher than the 8.1 percent growth the association reported for its members in April last year. Mexican retailers expect sales to rise over the full year as Mexicos economy has come back from recession and consumer confidence rises. ANTAD members include Comerci, Soriana and Gigante. Retail behemoth Wal-Mart de Mexico (Walmex) quit ANTAD in 2002 following a dispute about comparative pricing displays.
