MasterCard International has unveiled a new program that makes it easier for taxpayers to settle their U.S. federal tax obligations. Thanks to a relationship with H&R Block, and Link2Gov, Debit MasterCard cardholders can now pay their Federal Tax Year 2004

In 2004, taxpayers paid nearly $200 million in federal tax obligations with MasterCard cards. According to IRS statistics the number of self-prepared, computer filed returns grew to 14.5 million last year, up by more than 20 percent from 2003 and nearly triple the 5 million returns of 2000. This year, H&R Block estimates that nearly one million more taxpayers will move from paper returns to computer-based electronic filings. How Does This Program Work? To participate in this program, taxpayers must purchase an H&R Block Online Tax Program through www.MasterCard.com/us, by clicking on the Special Offers then Savings & Discounts tabs to quickly locate and select the offer. Using H&R Blocks online tax program taxpayers then complete their federal income tax Form 1040 (including forms 1040A, and 1040EZ). When ready to settle the taxes due they choose the Link2Gov hyperlink (www.pay1040.com) provided within the H&R Block tax program and pay the outstanding balance using their Debit MasterCard Card. The offer is valid only for online payments made on or before October 17, 2005. For complete details, including additional terms and conditions that may apply please visit www.mastercard.com/us.
