Identix is part of a team led by SchlumbergerSema that has been selected by the UK Passport Service (UKPS) to provide the technology for the UKPS six-month trial of biometric enrollment.

SchlumbergerSema selected Identix as its sub-contractor to provide fingerprint imaging and facial matching technologies for the pilot program. The use of biometric technologies for the UKPS pilot project conforms with the recommendations of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO). The trial will take six months beginning in January 2004. During this time 10,000 volunteers will be enrolled and receive personalized demonstration smart cards carrying both printed and electronic information. The pilot will test collection and verification of a facial recognition biometric. The pilot will also test fingerprint and iris pattern biometrics enrollment and verification.
