Identix Awarded BPA from U.S. Department of Homeland Security

Sunday 5 October 2003 21:04 CET | News

The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) has awarded the Identix a five year Blanket Purchase Agreement (BPA) to provide its TouchPrint 3000 line fingerprint biometric live scan booking stations and desktop systems to the Citizenship and Immigration Services (CIS), as well as to other select departments within DHS.

Under the terms of the BPA, which has no cap on spending, DHS initial cost evaluation for live scan systems and services is based on purchase volume of approximately $27 million over 60 months, with no minimum guaranty. However, actual dollar amounts spent and live scan systems purchased may vary depending on DHS future needs. The CIS uses live scan electronic fingerprint scanning systems to digitally capture and electronically submit applicant fingerprint images to the FBI. The fingerprints are used to conduct criminal background checks prior to the CIS making a determination whether to grant immigration benefits to applicants. Live scan systems are currently at more than 130 Application Support Centers (ASCs) located throughout the United States and the U.S. territories of Guam, the Virgin Islands, and Puerto Rico. Other DHS bureaus, including the Bureau of Immigration and Customs Enforcement and the Bureau of Customs and Border Protection, also use Identix live scan technology at ports of entry and other border enforcement locations. CIS anticipates expanding the ASC Program in 2004 to worldwide operations on up to five continents. The overseas ASC Program will allow biometrics capture for background checks prior to an applicant entering the United States. Identix TouchPrint 3000 Family of Products Identix TouchPrint 3000 Series consists of low-cost portable and rugged, standalone systems that incorporate product design breakthroughs and state-of-the-art technologies that serve to enhance image quality and reliability and lower the total cost of ownership, values that end users appreciate. Revolutionary optical and lighting schemes -- Moisture Discriminating Optics(patented), Dual Beam Illumination(patent pending) and Clear Trace Imaging(patent pending) -- enable the TouchPrint 3000 Series Livescan systems to ignore moisture, dirt, residue and latent prints left behind on the platen, helping to lower AFIS rejection rates and maximize throughput. The TouchPrint 3000 Series also provides customers the option of the first and only commercially available fingerprinting system with an integrated IQS Appendix F certified full hand scanner, able to capture an image from the carpal crease to the fingertips in one continuous scan.
