ID Systems Chooses Unisys to Help Implement RFID Project for U.S. Postal Service; Solution Will Speed Mail Processing and Track and Trace Industrial Trucks

Unisys Corporation has received a subcontract to support prime contractor I.D. Systems, Inc. with wireless tracking of United Stated Postal Service (USPS) vehicles. I.D. Systems recently announced it had been awarded the USPS contract to implement its Wireless Asset Net(tm) industrial equipment tracking and management systems at postal facilities nationwide. The new system will help the USPS move mail faster through processing centers, enhance equipment safety, afford management greater visibility of asset utilization and location, and create efficiencies in the USPS supply chain. Unisys will provide a range of IT infrastructure services, including project management for USPS facility site surveys, systems design and implementation of I.D. Systems radio frequency identification (RFID)-based technology. During the subcontracts three-year period, the USPS could deploy the system at up to 460 facilities. Unisys has more than 10 years of wireless tracking experience, including running one of the worlds largest RFID-based in-transit visibility networks -- a factory-to-foxhole implementation across 1,300 nodes in more than 20 countries for all branches of the U.S. military.
