Globalstar LLC, the worlds most widely used handheld satellite phone provider and a leading supplier of high-value satellite voice and data services to business, announced that it has entered into a $140 million multi-year agreement with QUALCOMM Inc., for the manufacture of next-generation satellite voice and data products. This agreement extends the companys long-standing business relationship with QUALCOMM, and confirms QUALCOMMs continued involvement and commitment to the current production of Globalstar satellite handsets, fixed terminals and data modem hardware, at a price point that will continue to make Globalstar the industry leader for high-value cost-effective satellite voice and data solutions. The agreement secures Globalstars hardware requirements for at least the next four years and the investment will enable the company to continue offering satellite voice handsets and data hardware to domestic and international distributors, resellers and end-user customers, at a price point that will allow it to maintain its position as a leader in the MSS category. This agreement represents another in a series of Globalstar investments since the companys restructuring over a year ago. QUALCOMM has had a long business relationship with Globalstar. QUALCOMM currently manufactures the GSP 1600 handset, the GSP 2900 fixed unit, as well as the GSP-1620 duplex data modem hardware.
