Sovereign Bank, a wholly owned subsidiary of Banco Santander, and electronic commerce and payment processing services provider First Data have renewed their merchant services contract.

Under the terms of the extended agreement, First Data will continue to provide merchant processing services to Sovereign’s business and commercial customers in the northeastern US, thus enabling Sovereign to offer electronic payment products and services including credit, debit, check and gift card programs.

Sovereign and First Data started to collaborate on merchant services programs in 2001. Sovereign has 750 branches and over 2,300 ATMs and offers financial services and products such as retail banking, business and corporate banking, cash management and capital markets.
