DORT Federal Credit Union Selects Diebold ImageWay Solutions

Wednesday 29 August 2007 20:05 CET | News

DORT Federal Credit Union, headquartered in Flint, Mich., has selected Diebolds ImageWay Branch and ImageWay ATM solution as its offering of choice for implementation of check imaging within the credit union. Diebold will provide DORT with its ImageWay Branch and ImageWay ATM products, which will allow the credit union to extend imaging capabilities across channels for streamlined efficiencies and expanded offerings.

With its implementation in the branch and at the ATM, DORT will be a leader among credit unions and smaller financial institutions, a group that is largely driving distributed capture implementation among retail bankers. According to research by Celent, an estimated 77 percent of financial institutions with $1-5 billion in assets have adopted or are implementingimaging strategies. Image capture provides institutions with broadergeographic possibilities by eliminating expensive courier and correspondentrelationships, and strategically positions them to increase service offeringsthrough remote capture at additional locations.  Diebolds ImageWay Branch uses a secure, browser-based, thin-client system with image-capture software and hardware that allows financial institutions to automate deposits. By leveraging the technology developed in ImageWay Branch, financial institutions can lower their costs and accomplish branch-related objectives. By decreasing or eliminating transportation costs for paper-based checks, ImageWay provides financial institutions with a wider geographic footprint from which to solicit business. Costs that may have made a location unfeasible under normal processing requirements may no longer be a deterrent for expansion of commercial or business banking services.DORT also implemented the industry-established ImageWay ATM solution that allows customers to deposit a check at the ATM without an envelope. Customers can view images of deposited items and receipts that show check images and total amounts. The ImageWay ATM solution consists of three layers of technology: the Diebold Intelligent Depository Module for check acceptance; Diebold Recognition Subsystem for character recognition and image quality analysis; and ImageWay Server Solutions. Combined, they allow for consistent image analytics to be performed across the ATM network, and the basis for remote capture. The credit union has opted to expand its imaging capabilities through use of Diebolds outsourcing model. Under this model, Diebold supplies hosting services for the program, and if requested, provides balancing and proof-of- deposit activities.Implementing imaging technology also protects financial institutions from escalating costs associated with traditional check services. In June, the Federal Reserve announced that only four regional processing sites will provide access to a full range of check services; and anticipates that by the close of 2007, image check volumes might exceed paper check presentments. Additionally, ImageWay solutions can be expanded to include remote capture at the merchant level, providing the ability for check deposit to be made directly from a client site. This technology anticipates the trend identified by the American Bankers Association; the group predicts that by mid-2008 nearly six of 10 community bank business customers could support remote capture at their business.
