Discover goes live with contactless devices in US

Tuesday 30 November 2010 10:53 CET | News

US-based direct banking and payment services company Discover has started issuing its Discover Zip contactless credit cards and stickers, targeted at early adopters of its mobile technology.

On November 15, these Discover cardholders began receiving contactless cards and stickers in the mail, whereas in January 2011 additional contactless cards and stickers are expected to be issued to more Discover customers.

The Discover Zip service is set to enable transactions with enhanced security features via contactless technology. Consumers have to touch a payment device, either a plastic card or a sticker that can be attached to a mobile phone or any personal item, to a Zip-enabled contactless reader to make a payment.

Currently, over 100,000 US merchant locations offer contactless readers that accept Zip transactions at the PoS, including quick service restaurants, gas stations, retailers and pharmacies, as well as public transit agencies.
