Coinstar Expands Line of Self-Service Kiosks With Introduction of its TOP-UP Unit

Coinstar has launched its next generation of self-service kiosks which deliver a range of prepaid consumer products, customer ease-of-use, and new revenue opportunities for convenience stores.

Coinstar new TOP-UP kiosk include self-service bill payment, a prepaid cash card, cell phone mobile content, online computer game time, prepaid wireless, prepaid long distance and prepaid Internet. Coinstar Inc.s new turnkey service offers an easy way for the retailer to sell prepaid products that require no store involvement, no training, no product inventory, minimal floor space, no tie-up at the checkout and the elimination of loss and theft. Coinstar offers free placement, installation and maintenance of the cash accepting, TOP-UP kiosk. It requires only two square feet of floor space, a phone line and electricity to operate. Store partners receive a revenue share on all products sold through the TOP-UP kiosk. The TOP-UP kiosks are the first offering for convenience store outlets from Coinstar Inc., the leader in self-service supermarket-based coin counting machines. The company already provides kiosks in more than 10,000 major grocery stores, with a history of 225 million automated point-of-sale transactions in the U.S., Canada and the United Kingdom. Diverse Product Line The Coinstar self-service kiosk is a gateway to a broad range of consumer prepaid products. Coinstar offers TOP-UP services such as bill payment, cell phone mobile content (ring tones, games and graphics), online computer game time, prepaid wireless, prepaid long distance and prepaid Internet. In late November the latest addition to the prepaid line will be the Truth Prepaid MasterCard Card. Future products may be added seamlessly via remote download from Coinstar at no charge to the retailer. Improved Consumer Experience The TOP-UP kiosks ease and speed of transaction is unmatched. Purchases, reloads, refills and recharges are done in less than one minute. No card stock is dispensed or necessary. The kiosk prints activation instructions for the consumers product selection. A toll free number is printed on each receipt for multi-lingual customer support, provided around the clock. For the Truth Prepaid MasterCard Card, the consumer receives a personalized embossed card in the mail within five to ten business days after activation. Coinstars kiosk arms convenience store owners with a diverse product line in the fast growth, $56 billion prepaid services industry. Industry analysts project the industry to reach $156 billion by 2007, which includes the rapidly expanding wireless market.
