BIO-key International has been awarded a contract with Logan International Airport in conjunction with its partner, HP. The award was through BIO-keys newly acquired company, Public Safety Group (PSG).The initial contract for the BIO-key portion of the award is valued at $250,000. The contract has the potential for additional advanced wireless technology products and services including fingerprint authentication and identification utilizing the existing infrastructure. The contract equips Massachusetts State Police Troopers with PSGs PocketCop software running on HP IPAQ wireless handheld devices to conduct identification and background checks on passengers and suspects as well as performing vehicle identifications in and around the airport. Using PocketCop, officers gain instant access to the Massachusetts Criminal Justice Information System (CJIS), to the FBIs National Crime Information Center (NCIC), and to the data repositories in other states via the National Law Enforcement Telecommunications System (NLETS). PocketCop also provides secure email and messaging from virtually any location within Logan Airport. This award further augments a corresponding project where PocketCop is being deployed to more than 1000 Massachusetts State Troopers on laptop computers mounted in their cruisers.
