Tuesday 29 August 2006 08:06 CET | News

The Australia-based New Zealand Banking Group (ANZ) has recevied confirmation from the from the State Bank of Vietnam to open outside branches of automatic teller machines (ATMs) in north and south of Vietnam.

The bank is scheduled to start installation of five more ATMs in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City next month. After becoming the first bank in the country to introduce ATMs to Vietnam in 1996, the latest move means ANZ is the first foreign bank to be allowed outside branches to expand its e-cash network. The State Bank of Vietnam permission for ANZ falls in line with the bilateral agreement signed between Vietnam and Australia on the country’s entry into the World Trade Organization (WTO). The bank plans to launch the ANZ Visa Debit in September and has already issued its first phase of USD certificates of deposit starting last month that close September 1.
