Altech to sell NamITech South Africa to Gemalto

Digital security provider Gemalto concludes an agreement with South African telecommunications, multi-media and information technology investment holding company Altech to acquire the latters NamITech South Africa business.

NamITech provides secure cards and banking personalization services for a series of South Africa financial services companies. Gemalto representatives have expressed their hopes that the acquisition is to expand the company’s business in South Africa and also contribute to the development of the local banking industry. The transaction is subject to approval from the South African Competition Commission and is expected to close in March 2009.
