ACI Worldwide Enhances ATM Network of Polands Largest Bank

PKO Bank Polski (PKO BP), has chosen ACI software to support the addition of mobile top-up functionality to its ATM network.

PKO BP will use ACI software to manage the online authorisation of mobile top-up payments at the ATM to increase revenue and improve cash flow. ACI is also supporting PKO BPs implementation of Triple DES, the ATM security standard mandated by the major card networks. In addition, PKO BP will implement ACIs Automated Key Distribution System (AKDS) and the enhanced services architecture of ACIs Transaction Security Services (TSS). PKO BP already uses ACIs BASE24-atm software to authorise, route and switch transactions across its network of nearly 1,800 ATMs. Using extensions to its existing BASE24 software, PKO BP will deliver real-time, online authorisation of ATM payments for pre-pay mobile top-up transactions. This will improve cash management as currently the bank purchases mobile vouchers in advance to meet expected demand levels. ACI will team with sister company Insession Technologies to deliver the solution, as BASE24 will communicate with mobile phone operators via Insessions WebGate software. WebGate provides the interface between both parties using HTTP and XML to facilitate requests and transfer information. PKO BP will deploy ACIs TSS module to help prepare its ATM network for Triple DES compliance. International card issuers are pushing the introduction of the Triple DES security standard to address ATM cryptography security concerns. TSS is powered by an enhanced services architecture, designed to manage all cryptographic functions such as PIN verification and chip authentication. Using TSS, PKO BP can deploy Triple DES quickly and integrate it seamlessly with the existing BASE24-atm infrastructure. PKO BP plans to automate and centralise the distribution of ATM secure numeric keys using ACIs AKDS, also based on the enhanced services technology. By introducing an electronic method of managing and distributing keys, banks can centralise this process to improve operational efficiency and reduce costs. Typical costs for managing keys manually include labour costs of key custodians, secure storage, site visits to enter the key into the back of an ATM, and administration costs of maintaining procedures. This change will help improve ATM security and reduce the risks associated with human error which could significantly increase under Triple DES compliance. Combined with the flexibility of the enhanced services components, BASE24 provides PKO BP with an infrastructure easily adaptable to new technologies. BASE24, the enhanced services modules and WebGate will operate on an HP NonStop(tm) platform to ensure 24 x 7 support for the new ATM network additions.
