Tuesday 16 February 2010 13:46 CET | News

Rixty, a US alternative payments services provider, has introduced a new functionality to its online cash-based payment platform, enabling children under the age of 13 and their parents to pay for online entertainment with cash and coins.

As a result of the initiative, children can use the company`s network of over 10,000 Coinstar kiosks and 10,000 prepaid card distribution locations to pay for online games and virtual worlds. Young customers can sign up to use Rixty without revealing any personal data and their parents are notified of account creation.

Rixty’s functionality follows the guidelines established by the Children’s Online Privacy and Protection Act (COPPA) and enforced by the FTC. The system has also been audited by TRUSTe, an FTC authorized COPPA review agency.

In January 2010, Rixty raised USD 1.24 million in seed capital to speed the growth of its cash-based payment system for online entertainment.
