Thursday 18 October 2012 00:32 CET | News

Google has revealed plans to roll out a YouTube pay-per-view service for users in India, online media outlet thinkdigit.com unveils.

The new service is expected to help the film industry cope with the piracy and provide consumers with more options to view movies or other videos. YouTubes rental model includes a one-time fee to stream the movie for a limited period of time.

According to Google’s Director Content Partnerships, Google Asia Pacific, the company has an increased interest on the regional content. Regional channels in India have the potential to be converted into YouTube content, considering the fact that about 33 percent of television content broadcast in regional languages.

Googles pay-per-view services are already available in countries such as Australia, Korea and Japan. In India, there are currently few options for online video rental services. In 2011, Telecom operator Airtel and Bigflix have launched Airtel Movies for computers/laptops and other devices over ethernet/Wi-Fi.
