France: Ukash partners la SAF to make e-vouchers available directly to consumers

Wednesday 13 January 2010 11:49 CET | News

UK-based prepaid online payment services provider Ukash has revealed plans to make e-cash vouchers available directly to French consumers, as a result of a contract signed with issuing network la SAF.

Under the terms of the agreement, consumers will be able to purchase Ukash vouchers to shop online from 15,000 point of sale terminals operated by la SAF and its divisions. Ukash vouchers are available for purchase wherever the Ukash logo is featured in shops and other terminals. Consumers can purchase the printed vouchers with cash in amounts of EUR 20, EUR 50, EUR 100 and EUR 200. The Ukash voucher is redeemed online when the consumer enters their Ukash PIN as payment on a certain website and can be split into smaller amounts, combined into larger amounts or converted into other currencies.

In March 2009, Ukash partnered French telecom operator Central Telecom to make the Ukash vouchers available through Central Telecoms Tonéo prepaid card sold in locations across France. Vouchers have also been available online via bank transfer (by visiting www.ukash.com) since mid-2009. Consumers can also get Ukash directly in 15,000 outlets. Ukash is available at more than 300,000 physical issuing points in 29 countries.

Editor`s notes: In an exclusive interview with The Paypers, Ukashs CEO Mark Chirnside spoke about the company`s ambitions to become the next alternative payment mechanism that becomes as mainstream as the likes of PayPal. Should the company continue with its expansion plans by pursuing other strategic projects throughout 2010, such plans may come close to fruition.
