China: online payment users reach 187 mln in June 2012

The number of Chinese online payment users has reached 187 million in June 2012, with a penetration rate of almost 34.8 percent, a recent survey indicates.

According to a report by China Internet Network Information Center (CNNIC), the online payment environment is safe and only 5.3 percent of users have declared they believe the online payment is not secure. Currently, the most popular online payment method is third-party account balance payment and online bank payment with 79.2 percent and 75.7 percent of users, respectively.

Data shows that rapid payment and card payment is also a new trend with 40.4 percent coverage. The same source points out that Alipay is the third-party payment tool with the largest coverage, about 80 percent of online payment users select Alipay.
