China: Microsoft, Alipay partner for online payment security

Microsoft and Alipay, the online payment unit of Alibaba Group, have signed a strategic letter of intent in Beijing to jointly develop and distribute services to upgrade internet security and privacy protection for Chinese users.

The cooperation is also reportedly the first time to use the device health model to provide customers with security protection worldwide. The device health model is aimed at preventing consumers devices from infection. By using the device health model, users will receive warnings while completing internet transactions, in case their devices lack protection.

According to Chen Jing, a general manager for Microsoft, cited by online media outlet chinatechnews.com, this internet payment security system will first be deployed in Windows PC systems and it is expected to appear in mobile device system such as Windows Phone.

In May 2012, Alipay has received approval to process payments by individuals and corporates buying and selling investment funds online from Chinese regulators.
