Africa-based e-commerce and online shopping services provider 3G Direct Pay is set to expand its services to Kenya, by focusing on regional travellers.

3G Direct Pay provides online payment instruments including VISA, MasterCard, American Express and JCB, multiple currencies and PayPal services. Via the 3G Direct Pay system, the payments service is connected to the merchants e-commerce website allowing the customer to initiate payment online.

Additionally, the system is set to run a back office payments service for merchants not operating e-commerce websites to enable them to serve invoice and receive payment from the travellers or customers. The merchants are able to collect credit card payment from any of its customers, both locally and globally.

The African travel market, including hotels, airlines and tour companies already uses the 3G Direct Pay services. The market is expected to grow due to the EAC common market protocol launched in July 2010 which allows free movement to the 133 million people in the region. Moreover, a free trade area protocol is to be signed among EAC, the Common Market for Eastern and Southern Africa (Comesa) and Southern African Development Community (SADC) member countries.

Launched in Kenya in 2006, the 3G Direct Pay serves about 200 clients in Kenya, Tanzania and Zambia.
