Use of Wescom Credit Unions online banking service, eBranch, has surpassed the 100,000-member milestone -- approx. half of the Southern California credit unions total membership. The success can be attributed to Wescoms eBranch. eBranch has offered members an inter-institution transfer service since its inception in July 1999, a service that other financial institutions are just beginning to market as a new service to their customers. Wescoms eBranch was also one of the first credit union online banking sites to offer online check images, electronic statements, and e-mail account alerts. A significant increase in the usage of eBranch also occurred when Wescom began offering its BillPayer service for free to its members in June 2003. Prior to that time, 17 percent of Wescoms eBranch users paid to use the service. Today, approx. 24 percent uses the service frequently. A recent industry comparison conducted by Callahan and Associates ranks Wescom members usage of BillPayer among the highest in the credit union industry. Wescoms 100,000th eBranch user praises the service. With a new job that requires her to work extra hours, Amy Krausnick found it occasionally difficult to get to her branch in person. Her friend, a fellow Wescom member, suggested eBranch as an alternative to the days she cannot make it to a branch.
