Metrobank selects IBM for online banking security

Metrobank, a private bank in the Philippines has signed an agreement with computer technology and consulting corporation IBM to deploy security technology for Metrobankdirect, the banks online banking facility.

Under the terms of the deal, IBM is to incorporate two-factor authentication (2FA) security technology (including strong authentication services providers Vasco and Data Security Systems authentication and token management services) into the IBM Internet Security Systems. This initiative is meant to enhance the Metrobank customers authentication process by requiring a second means of identification via a security token in order to grant users access to Metrobanks online banking facility.

2FA is a security process by which the user provides a second means of identification in order to obtain system access.
