CBAs NetBank online banking portal temporarily offline due to "network issues"

Tuesday 30 June 2009 10:15 CET | News

NetBank, the online banking portal of Australian financial services provider The Commonwealth Bank of Australia (CBA) has experienced a temporary glitch, cutting off thousands of customers from their online accounts, the online edition of local media outlet The Sydney Morning Herald reports.

According to the same source, the bank has announced its customers that it is experiencing intermittent network issues which have prevented online users from accessing their accounts or carrying out transactions online. A set deadline by which the system is expected to be restored is yet to be announced, however the bank gave assurances that it was “working to resolve this as a matter of emergency”.

The same source indicates that the glitch could have been caused by a hacker attack, as CBA has been the target of several phishing attempts, fraudulent emails and online scams in recent months, after it has upgraded its online banking platform.
