Spanish financial services provider Caja de Extremadura has teamed up with authentication software security company Vasco Data Security to use the latters Digipass 810 card readers in order to secure transactions via its Servicash online banking portal.

The card readers are EMV CAP (Chip Authentication Program) certified and allow the bank’s customers to access their Servicash online banking accounts as well as use various features of the online platform, among which mail functionalities and an online domestic accounts organizer. The Spanish bank’s employees also use the Digipass 810 tokens to log onto the bank’s network and secure their online sessions without installing additional hardware or software components. In order to secure their online banking transactions, users insert their cards into the readers and type in their PINs, and once they have completed a given transaction, they are also required to input an additional password which functions as a digital signature for confirmation.
