The devices are part of an online home banking project which is developed by the bank in question – whose name has not yet been disclosed – in cooperation with ACS and a local telecommunication company. The project aims to employ a combination of VoIP (Voice-over-Internet Protocol) desktop phones and smart card technology provided by ACS in order to provide cardholders with the ability to conduct online banking transactions at home without using a computer. Thus, ACS’ smart card readers are to be connected to a VoIP desktop phone instead of to a computer, with transactions being carried out online by authenticating documents via digital signatures from smart cards.
