ABA, FBI issue joint online banking warning to US small and mid-sized organizations

US industry trade group and professional association The American Bankers Association (ABA) along with the FBI have issued a warning to small and medium-sized US enterprises (SMEs) regarding the high levels of online banking fraud which have targeted this particular type of organizations in recent months.

According to US online news portal usatoday.com, the joint ABA and FBI warning particularly addresses small firms, local government authorities, schools, churches and NGOs which manage their finances via dedicated online banking accounts. It comes in the wake of a marked increase in the number of “banking Trojans” which cybercriminals employ to gain remote control over their victims’ online accounts and siphon off funds.

The ABA and FBI thus advise small organisations to employ a separate computer for their online banking transactions, one that is not used for email or browsing over the internet – in order to minimise exposure to dangerous malware.
